Do you remember that one night when you came over to my dorm and we went outside to look at the stars? It was sometime in the late fall or early winter...we had broken up but occasionally hung out. And do you remember just as I was exclaiming, "Man, look how pretty the stars are!" that gigantic, gold, glowing ball of light flashed for 10 seconds across the sky behind the planetarium? And we stood there, mouths open, stunned, and silent as we watched it stream across the sky. Just standing quietly in that cold field lost in our own thoughts. And do you remember when it faded away, we turned to each other with amazement in our eyes and you said, "thank you..."
I'll never forget that look in your eyes. I'm sure I had the same look: somewhat shocked, giddy, amazed, ridiculously happy, awestruck and just...profound. To be honest, I don't know if that was some kind of firework because I feel like there's no way that could have been a shooting star because of it's size, but we never heard an explosion, and it was moving way too slow to be a firework...
Regardless of what it really was, I'm glad I got to share that experience with someone. You made it seem that much more special and wondrous because you were in awe as well, and you seemed to enjoy the beauty and magic of that night.
I hope you're doing well. I hope you found a great girl to be with. Most of all, I hope you're happy and sometimes when look back at your days in college, you'll remember that night because I think I'll always remember that night as well...
